Rick Rylance has announced that he will step down as chief executive of the Arts and Humanities Research Council in December, after six years in the role.

Rylance, who will leave the council on 1 December, is to become director of the Institute of English Studies at the School of Advanced Study at the University of London.

In a statement published on 20 May, Rylance said that there was a "wonderful and healthy future ahead for the AHRC" and that he had "loved" his time there.
