The UK's research councils are concerned that demand management measures are making it harder for early-career researchers to get grants, but say plans are in place to improve transparency of awards data.
According to Iain Gillespie, director of science and innovation at the Natural Environment Research Council, “there was a palpable decrease in the likelihood of early-career researchers getting a grant” following the introduction of such measures at NERC.
He was speaking at the Research Professional Question Time event, which was held at the Association of Research Managers and Administrators conference in Brighton on 1 June.
