The Arts and Humanities Research Council is urging more independent research organisations to apply for its funding schemes.
IRO status was introduced in 2007 as a way for museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage bodies that conduct research to apply for AHRC funding. Status as an IRO allows these organisations to compete for grants on an equal footing with universities.
The AHRC said that it was looking to increase the number of organisations with IRO status. “We always welcome organisations applying to become an IRO,” Mike Collins, head of communications at the AHRC, told Research Fortnight.
