The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has launched a £45-million project to set up a consortium of universities in a virtual Battery Institute developing novel energy storage devices.
The call is part of £246m of funding earmarked for battery research under the Faraday Challenge, part of the government’s industrial strategy, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced on 24 July.
Promising research produced by the Institute will be commercialised via collaborations with industrial partners.
