EPSRC offering funding for diversity projects

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is offering up to £5 million to support projects that encourage greater equality, diversity and inclusion in the studies that it supports.

The funding will be used by universities or university groups to pilot novel ideas and interventions that promote a culture change in engineering and the physical sciences.

The EPSRC has identified a number or related issues: the low number of women undertaking engineering and physical sciences research; the black, Asian and minority ethnic attainment gap; and the underrepresentation of women, people from BAME backgrounds and people with disabilities in senior positions. These are some of the challenges that require “continued concentrated action”, it says.
