The Global Challenges Research Fund has awarded funding totalling £16 million to agriculture and food systems research.
Thirty-five projects were funded, led by 27 organisations, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council announced on 12 July.
According to the terms of the fund, UK researchers are asked to work in close partnership with counterparts based in low and middle-income countries.
