Researchers might soon have to justify why genomics is not included in a grant proposal when applying for medical research funding.
Sally Davies, England’s chief medical officer, called for all grant applications to include genomics in a report, Generation Genome, published on 4 July.
The move mirrors a previous attempt by Davies to push diversity up the agenda of university departments by making Athena SWAN accreditation a condition of grant-funding from the National Institute for Health Research.
