Funding awarded to help freeze disease

The universities of Glasgow, Leicester and Oxford have been awarded a total of £11.3 million to set up cryo-electron microscopy facilities.

The Medical Research Council will fund the centres, where researchers will study biological samples at low temperatures. Jo Johnson, the science and universities minister, announced the funding on 18 July.

The universities of Glasgow and Leicester will collaborate on virus research, and the University of Oxford will host a dangerous pathogens containment facility.
