EPSRC funds national materials centre

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has awarded £3 million to develop a materials analysis centre led by researchers at Cardiff University and University College London.

The central test facility will be based in Harwell, near Oxford, and will give researchers access to two X-ray photoelectron spectrometers, which will help them to better understand how materials react with their surroundings.

Philip Davies, a professor of physical chemistry at Cardiff University and co-leader of the centre, told Research Fortnight that the facility aims to act as a research centre as well as a provider of specialist analysis at Cardiff, UCL and the University of Manchester.
