ESRC research director promoted to interim chief executive

Tony McEnery, director of research at the Economic and Social Research Council, will head the organisation in the run up to the creation of UK Research and Innovation.

McEnery will be the interim chief executive of the ESRC until a permanent appointment is made, according to a statement published on 3 August. The successful candidate will become the organisation’s first executive chair after the creation of UKRI on 1 April 2018.

McEnery, who is director of the ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science at Lancaster University, has been on secondment to the council since October 2016.
