MRC launches joint calls with industry partners

The Medical Research Council and pharmaceutical companies UCB and AstraZeneca have issued two calls for projects to speed up translation of drug discovery research into clinical treatments.

The MRC and AstraZeneca call is for researchers aiming to discover potential starting points for small molecule therapeutic approaches, the council said in an announcement on 2 August. Applicants will gain access to high-throughput screening facilities to search for active small molecules at the firm’s Centre for Lead Discovery.

Meanwhile, the MRC and UCB have launched the Antibody Discovery Initiative. This call seeks to accelerate the transition from discovery research to translational development projects by enabling the generation of novel antibodies suitable for testing in models of disease.
