UKRI recruits directors for two more industrial challenges

UK Research and Innovation has named the leaders of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund’s programmes on medicines manufacturing and creative industries.

Andy Jones (pictured, left), a former head of pharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing science and technology at the drug firm AstraZeneca, has been chosen to lead the ISCF Medicines Manufacturing challenge, the UKRI announced on 3 October. Andrew Chitty (pictured, right), professor of creative and digital economy at Royal Holloway, University of London, will be in charge of shaping the ISCF Audience of the Future challenge.

The £181-million Medicines Manufacturing challenge seeks to enhance the pace of development, manufacture and delivery of novel medicines in the UK. Jones is an expert in drug manufacturing in the fields of oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular and metabolic disease. He will take up his position in October and replace Nick Medcalf, who was serving as interim director of the programme.
