£50m for AI centres to speed up medical diagnosis

Five new digital pathology and imaging centres have been awarded £50 million through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

The centres will be funded as part of the ISCF’s Data to Early Diagnosis and Precision Medicine challenge, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced on 6 November.

The list of winning bids includes the London Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence Centre for Value-Based Healthcare led by King’s College London; Industrial Centre for AI Research in Digital Diagnostics in Glasgow; the National Consortium of Intelligent Medical Imaging in Oxford; the Northern Pathology Imaging Collaborative located in Leeds; and the Pathology Image Data Lake for Analytics, Knowledge and Education in Coventry.
