UK Research and Innovation is preparing to launch 16 cross-cutting calls under the Global Challenges Research Fund in a bid to generate fresh ideas for sustainable development.
The calls are part of the third wave of the GCRF Collective Programme, a UKRI spokeswoman told Research Professional. The GCRF has six strategic themes, or “challenge portfolios”, and the calls are intended to increase their impact. The themes are: global health, education, sustainable cities, food systems, conflict and displacement, and resilience.
The first calls will open this week but the majority will be announced throughout 2019, UKRI said in a statement on 10 December. Call topics include education in conflict and crisis research, multiple and systemic environmental risks, and health and communities.
