The director of strategy at UK Research and Innovation Rebecca Endean is to leave her role in spring 2019, Research Fortnight has learned.
Endean’s departure was announced to staff on 5 December. She is the second most senior figure at UKRI after its chief executive Mark Walport.
A spokesman for the umbrella funding agency confirmed Endean’s departure, and said she was leaving “to take a long-planned year off to travel with her partner”. He said Endean had decided to announce her departure early to allow a managed transition period and the process of selecting a replacement was underway.
