UK Research and Innovation has launched a fellowship scheme to provide long-term funding to help early-career researchers transition to independence.
The Future Leaders Fellowships scheme, the total budget for which will be announced soon, will fund salaries and research costs for more than 550 researchers for up to seven years, UKRI said in a statement on 3 April. The scheme aims to support “excellent and high-potential future research and innovation leaders”.
University-based researchers can receive up to seven years’ funding, allocated on a ‘4+3’ basis with a review in the fourth year. “The case for support should make clear the long-term aims of the programme, and why they matter—while providing more specific plans and costings for the first four years,” UKRI said.
