The Natural Environment Research Council is launching a public engagement scheme to help environmental scientists increase the impact of their research on policymaking and the marine industry.
AccessLab will pair scientists with policymakers, journalists and people working in the marine industry to help them learn how to engage with different public groups effectively, NERC said. It will also help non-specialists to understand how to access and use scientific research.
“University researchers are the most trusted source of accurate information about controversial environmental research issues, yet many researchers lack confidence and experience in engaging with non-specialists,” the research council said in a statement.
