UKRI opens hard-Brexit portal

UK Research and Innovation has launched the system that will be used to ensure recipients of European Union research grants can continue to be funded in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

British research institutions and companies funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 R&D programme have been asked to start providing UKRI with basic information about their projects through an online portal launched on 27 September.

In a hard Brexit, Framework funds will cease to flow to the UK, and the information submitted will enable UKRI to manage a promise to underwrite Horizon 2020 funding. The government has guaranteed funding for UK researchers who have bids approved by Horizon 2020 for the duration of their projects, regardless of whether the country is part of the EU or part of the programme.
