The chief executive of UK Research and Innovation has undertaken a two-day visit to Delhi to strengthen research collaborations between UK and India at a crucial time for British science.
Mark Walport addressed India’s newly formed Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council on his visit on 16 and 17 January following an invitation from its chair, biologist and India’s chief scientist Krishnaswamy VijayRaghavan. Walport was accompanied by Tim Wheeler, UKRI’s director for international.
The trip comes as the UK funder develops a strategy for international research and innovation and strives to strengthen international links as fears grow over the impact of Brexit. Both countries have taken strides in recent months to improve their bilateral relations on science.
