ESRC dishes out second round of impact awards

The Economic and Social Research Council has awarded £27 million to increase research impact in its second round of Impact Acceleration Accounts.

The awards help social scientists to collaborate with businesses, policymakers and civil society to accelerate the impact of their research. The scheme supports a wide range of objectives, including the development of skills for knowledge exchange, and secondments intended to enable research impact.

A total of 25 research organisations secured funding in the second round, each obtaining between £800,000 and £1.3m over four years, the council announced on 31 January. In addition, Newcastle University was awarded IAA transition funding, which is available to institutions that won an award in the first round but were not eligible or did not secure full funding in round two.
