Andrew Thompson is stepping down as executive chair of the Arts and Humanities Research Council to become chair in global imperial history at the University of Oxford, the funder has announced.
Thompson will be taking up his new job as chair of global imperial history at Oxford and professorial fellow at Nuffield College from September, the AHRC and the University of Oxford said in a joint statement on 25 March.
He will continue his role as executive chair of the research council until the end of December 2019 while a replacement is recruited, the AHRC said.
