England gains most from Strength in Places early-stage funding

A total of 24 projects spanning the four UK nations are set to receive early-stage funding from the Strength in Places Fund, with the vast majority of the cash to be spent in England.

The umbrella funding agency UK Research and Innovation, which manages the fund, announced on 21 March that 18 projects based in England had been selected for early-stage funding under the first round of the fund. The agency said it would support four projects in Scotland, one in Northern Ireland and another one in Wales.

David Sweeney, UKRI lead on the fund and executive chair of Research England, said the projects show that there is “world-class R&D, and high quality innovation right across the UK, from excellent research in university departments and public research organisations to initiatives from forward-looking businesses”.
