The Medical Research Council has opened a £22-million funding call for a network of Digital Innovation Hubs, aimed at helping scientists access NHS and social care data.

The hubs will be funded by the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to curate large datasets and provide UK-wide research data services. The funding call, which opened on 7 May, is requesting proposals to develop one of five possible hubs.

The call is part of the third stage of a programme set up in September 2018 and funded with a total of £37.5m over four years. In the present funding call, up to £22m will be available for the hubs, which are to run from October to August 2022.
