Starting gun fired for second wave of Strength in Places Fund

Research organisations are invited to bid for a share of the £236-million Strength in Places Fund, as umbrella funding body UK Research and Innovation launches the second wave of the scheme.

The funding will be available to consortia of research organisations, businesses and local authorities across the UK for projects aimed at boosting local economic growth, UKRI and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced on 8 May.

Applicants must first submit an expression of interest between May and October. Successful bids—selected by a panel led by the commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission, Kate Barker—will then be awarded up to £50,000 to develop full-stage proposals over a period of six months.
