The first chief executive of UK Research and Innovation, which is responsible for the public funding of R&D in the UK, has announced his retirement.
Mark Walport, who was appointed to lead the umbrella funding body in 2017, will step down from the post in 2020, UKRI announced on 12 September.
In a statement, he described his time at the helm of the organisation as a “great privilege”.
