
Lack of funding puts them at an ‘immediate disadvantage’ in their career, say postgrads
PhD students whose caring responsibilities have interrupted their work during the pandemic should be offered a blanket funding extension of at least six months to make up for time missed, students have said.
As much of the UK is in lockdown, with schools closed, many PhD students who are parents are once again having to juggle research with caring and home-schooling. Some 200 of them have penned an open letter to the national funding agency, UK Research and Innovation, calling for more time and money to finish their projects.
