UK engineering and tech struggle to attract female academics

   

Hesa data reveal gender imbalance, rise in fixed-term contracts and net gain in overseas arrivals

More than 80 per cent of UK academic staff working in engineering and technology subjects are men, the latest data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency have shown.

Among UK staff, engineering and technology had the highest proportion of male academics at 81 per cent, with 11,775 male academic staff compared with 2,835 female academic staff.
