Budget for NIHR global health schemes drops 28%

     

Government figures show steep drop in funds following international aid cut, but calls are continuing

Grant schemes at the National Institute for Health Research are under pressure because of the UK’s decision to reduce spending on international aid, with the budget that supports such schemes shrinking 28 per cent year on year.

In 2016 the NIHR launched its global health research programme for the benefit of people in low-income and middle-income countries. It is funded by the Department for Health and Social Care using international aid funds.
