EPSRC data reveal disparities in funding of ethnic minorities

Detailed data shows Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi ethnicities are underrepresented across the funder’s portfolio

Detailed ethnicity data published by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has revealed a continued underrepresentation of ethnic minorities across its funding portfolio.

According to an analysis of the 2018-19 data published by the research council on 4 March, principal investigators from Black ethnic backgrounds are the most underrepresented, compared with the labour market and wider academic population, at less than 1 per cent.
