Blow comes as reductions to funder’s overseas aid allocations revealed to be 70 per cent
English universities will be losing their entire block grant from the UK’s aid budget in 2021-22 as a result of the government’s decision to slash spending on research for development, a loss of tens of millions of pounds to the higher education sector.
The development comes as new figures show UK Research and Innovation’s budget supporting projects on development research was cut by 70 per cent, far more than the overall reduction to the UK aid budget at around 30 per cent.
