Former business secretary said UK Research and Innovation is “ripe for reform”

Jacob Rees-Mogg, the former business secretary under Liz Truss, has said he wanted to cut funding for research grants made through the national funding agency UK Research and Innovation.

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph on 30 October, Rees-Mogg said: “I thought there were significant savings to be had through UKRI in the grant-making that goes on there.”
