Government appears to abandon £300m promise for maths

Campaign group says “worrying” development puts science superpower ambitions “at risk”

Mathematics advocates have reacted with dismay to the government’s apparent abandonment of a promise to boost maths research funding to £300 million over 5 years.

In January 2020, the government promised to deliver £300m to support mathematical sciences and take annual funding to around £60m per year, essentially doubling the money available.
