Kwasi Kwarteng reportedly rejected appointment of Jonathan Michie, deeming him “too left-wing”
Reports that the UK business secretary vetoed the selection of Jonathan Michie as leader of the Economic and Social Research Council have stoked fears of a “creeping politicisation” of the public appointments system.
Michie, president of Kellogg College at the University of Oxford and a professor of innovation and knowledge exchange, was reportedly chosen as the next executive chair of the ESRC by an independent selection panel.
