MRC-NIHR clinical trials scheme praised by independent reviewers

   

Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation initiative deemed “an important bridge between discovery and effectiveness research”

Projects funded under the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation programme, a joint initiative of the National Institute for Health Research and the Medical Research Council, have helped to inform health policy and address gaps in public healthcare, an independent evaluation has concluded.

The Technopolis Group and Ipsos Mori consultancies analysed the first 10 years of the EME programme for the MRC and the NIHR. The programme aims to support medical researchers and clinicians seeking new approaches to disease prevention and treatments—mainly by funding trials to test how promising approaches might work in practice.
