
Researchers face stay-or-go decision as latest development in Horizon Europe saga fuels brain-drain fears
UK-based winners of European Research Council grants have reacted with “absolute shock and devastation” after the ERC said they must move their projects to an EU institution within two months or lose the funding.
The ultimatum, sent on 8 April, follows years of uncertainty over UK association to the €95.5 billion (£80.5bn) Horizon Europe programme of which the ERC is a part. It has ratcheted up fears that top researchers will leave the UK.
