National funder promises to improve in response to independent review that found “risks to efficiency”
UK Research and Innovation has promised to improve after a major review raised concerns over high staffing levels and inefficiency at the £8 billion-a-year funder.
UKRI, created in 2018 to bring together nine separate research councils, was supposed to lead to efficiencies and more cross-disciplinarity in R&D funding. The independent review commissioned by the government says the funder has “partially met the objectives that were set at its formation”.
