UKRI branding means ‘joy of winning ERC grant has been lost’

Grant winner says UK replacement funding “diminished” by dropping ERC from the title

UK-based European Research Council grantees receiving replacement funding from the UK government have been prohibited from referring to their funding as an ERC grant.

In recent months more than 140 UK-based researchers who won 2021 ERC grants have been forced to decide between moving to an eligible country or accepting the alternative UK funding, as the country did not associate to the EU’s Horizon Europe programme in time for grant signing.
