More than 400 UK researchers await £206m from EU backup fund

UK ‘safety net’ fund has so far paid £142 million out to researchers

The UK’s national R&D funding agency is in the midst of processing hundreds of applications worth nearly £350 million from UK-based researchers who won EU funding but cannot draw on it.

UK association to the EU’s €95.5 billion (£81.5bn) R&D programme, Horizon Europe, has been held up due to an ongoing political dispute over Northern Ireland trade borders, preventing UK researchers who recently won EU grants from receiving them.
