Concerns grow in universities over REF research culture metrics

Vice-chancellors expected to voice concern in official response to consultation on next assessment exercise

Universities fear the increased emphasis on research culture in the next Research Excellence Framework could have unintended negative consequences, Research Professional News understands.

Earlier this year, the UK’s funding bodies announced the introduction of a people, culture and environment section in the next iteration of the research assessment exercise, which determines the amount of research funding universities receive from government.
