Research Excellence Framework can be ‘burdensome’, MPs hear

REF could be putting Scottish institutions at a “significant disadvantage” financially, professor suggests

Concerns have been raised about the “burden of assessment” with the Research Excellence Framework, as MPs heard of the importance of long-term funding for Scottish research institutions.

The framework–the UK’s system for assessing the excellence of research at higher education providers–is “on a journey in developing its approach”, University of Edinburgh provost Kim Graham noted at a Scottish Affairs Committee meeting.
