Peer reviewers quit after agency bows to pressure from science secretary over social media posts
Outraged researchers are resigning as peer reviewers for the national funding agency UK Research and Innovation in protest at the suspension of the activities of an equality, diversity and inclusion panel.
Yesterday, UKRI said it was suspending the panel’s operations “with immediate effect” after science secretary Michelle Donelan accused some of its members of sharing “extremist views” on social media in relation to the Israel-Hamas war. Donelan called for the panel to be disbanded.
