UKRI on the hunt for hosts of AI computing centres

Work starts on deciding where to invest the £500 million committed in the autumn statement

National funder UK Research and Innovation has revealed it is on the hunt for hosts of artificial intelligence computing centres, after the chancellor committed £500 million for such centres in his autumn statement.

In November, Jeremy Hunt said the government would invest the money over the next two years to fund further innovation centres to help “make us an AI powerhouse”, pointing to recently funded supercomputer centres at the universities of Edinburgh and Bristol.
