Call for leadership to help UK research sector decarbonise

Funders consider building sustainability into grant requirements as calls grow for standardised carbon reporting

The UK’s research and innovation sector needs leadership on reducing carbon emissions and increasing sustainability, according to speakers at a Royal Society conference held this week.

Attendees also heard from representatives of funding bodies who said that institutions may soon be required to report on their carbon emissions, while sustainability could be brought into decision-making on grants.
