Support plan details action amid concerns over researchers’ low pay and high workloads

National funder UK Research and Innovation has said it will review stipend payments as part of its plans to improve support for postgraduate researchers.

UK postgraduate researchers have been hit hard by the cost of living crisis, with many complaining of low pay, high workloads, a lack of support and inadequate training. Meanwhile, UKRI came under heavy criticism for the level of support offered to postgraduate researchers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
