Nerc funding ‘not enough’ for Antarctic scientists

                      

MPs hear that Antarctic science needs more ambitious and longer-term funding

Funding for Antarctic scientists from the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council is “not enough”, MPs have heard.

The logistics involved in Antarctic research make it expensive and lengthy, and UK researchers in the field need more time and money than Nerc grants currently offer them, said Joanne Johnson of the British Antarctic Survey—the UK’s national polar research institute.
