Most UKRI project leaders are white men, latest data show

National funder reveals more than half of principal investigator awards went to white male scientists

National funder UK Research and Innovation has found over half of its awards to lead a research project went to white men.

Released on 8 April, UKRI’s annual diversity data report revealed that 56 per cent of UKRI-funded principal investigators, who are the leaders of research projects, were white men. The report examines UKRI awards in 2021 to 2022.
