UKRI steps back from role in sustainability agreement

National research funding agency is not following health charities in adding requirements to grant rules

The national funding agency UK Research and Innovation has stepped back from playing a coordinating role in a sector-wide agreement on environmentally sustainable research.

Yesterday, a voluntary concordat on limiting the environmental impact of research was launched, committing signatories to “deliver real change by 2050”. UKRI is one of 18 initial signatories and played a coordinating role in developing the concordat.
