The University of Cambridge is fundraising for its planned Heart and Lung Research Institute in partnership with the Papworth Hospital, also in Cambridge.
The university and hospital say the institute will incorporate a specialist research and development unit with specialists in basic, clinical and population science. The plans include a 40 per cent increase in recruitment over existing staff levels and the co-location of research groups dispersed around Cambridge.
