University groups have welcomed the announcement by the Higher Education Funding Council for England of an extra £1,100 in funding for full-time postgraduate students starting in 2012-13.
Michael Farthing, chairman of the 1994 Group and vice-chancellor of the University of Sussex, said, “This is a breakthrough moment for postgraduate study, an issue which has been ignored for far too long.
