Bigger REF changes may lie ahead, says 1994 group

The upcoming Research Excellence Framework and the next general election could “make the changes of the last two years look like marginal tinkering,” Alex Bols, new director of the 1994 group of smaller, research-intensive universities, has said.

Bols was warning of the dangers of a ‘wait and see’ attitude to the higher education sector in his first speech as director at a London conference on 14 June. He formally takes up the role on 18 June.
